Cody's StoryCody Sanders was a young man who touched many people during his brief life. He had a contagious smile and a passion for life. Cody was an all around athlete and outdoorsman. He loved his family and friends with a deep love and concern. He was loved and admired by everyone that knew him. However, like many of us, Cody was not immune to the struggles of this life. At the age of 25, Cody was introduced to cocaine and battled an addiction for two years, before finally, agreeing to seek treatment. With two failed attempts at short-term treatment programs, Cody decided to go to a 12-month faith-based treatment program, The Lazarus Project, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. It was there, with spiritual guidance and Christian influences, that Cody made a commitment to change his life, and God miraculously healed him from his addiction. Cody was excited about what God was doing in his life, stating to family and friends that "I have been set free." On the evening of August 24, 2005, Cody spoke to a group of teenagers at a local church about his struggles and how God had delivered him. After playing a game of basketball, Cody returned to the treatment program, where he prayed with a fellow resident and went to bed at 10:30. He went to sleep listening to a Casting Crowns CD. At approximately 1:30 AM, Cody suffered a cardiac arrhythmia, his heart stopped beating and he passed away in his sleep. When he was found early that morning, he had a beautiful, peaceful smile on his face. He was at home with his Lord, the One who had loved him enough to "set him free."
We see you in every sunset
And feel you in every breeze
The ocean seems to call your name
Your laughter rustles in the leaves
We see you shine amongst the stars
And hear you in honking geese
The rain reminds us of you
Every thought of you brings peace
We hear you in the night song
And see your face so clear
So many times we feel your presence
You greet us as a lonesome deer
We are amazed at how you are with us
We are amazed at God’s grace
Even though you are gone
Your presence fills this place
